10 reasons why you should hire a professional Interior Designer

Updated: Mar 9, 2023

Do you think that interior design is an inaccessible luxury?

Think again.

With prices to hire an interior designer more affordable than ever, there are a huge range of benefits to getting an interior designer involved in your projects.

"What are they?" I hear you ask.

Read on to find out.

1. Hiring an Interior Designer can save you money

OK, so you’re paying for an additional service but you’re saving money? How does that work?! Well, by hiring a professional designer, you get access not only to their expertise, but also their wide knowledge of retailers. Therefore, they are more likely to find you appropriate products at a wide range of prices, so you don’t buy a side table this week and then come across a similar one £100 cheaper next week. Plus, having their expertise means that the room design will be right the first time. No extra paint sample purchases because you just can’t decide. No having to send furniture back because it doesn’t fit.

2. They'll save you time

Getting off the starting blocks from ‘plans’ into an actual project takes time and that can feel like a lifetime away sometimes. We all lead very busy lives and starting or even continuing a project and then having to think about shopping for accessories, arranging deliveries etc is just overwhelming. Wouldn’t you rather delegate and work collaboratively with your designer so they do all the heavy lifting? This doesn’t mean you lose control, it actually means the opposite!

3. You get to retain your sanity throughout your project!

This is a big plus point! As mentioned above, updating your interior can be stressful. Choosing colours, planning a layout and sourcing the items can be a huge frustration. In hiring an Interior Designer, you can lift that big weight off your shoulders and pass it over to their capable hands.

4. You hire a trained eye

The trained eye of a designer can see the bigger picture whilst still focussing in on the smallest detail. Therefore, your entire design will be cohesive throughout.

5. A Designer will help you to define your style

If you are unsure as to what your preferred or personal style is, you still cannot decide on how you want your home to look or you only know what you like and dislike when you actually see it, then it is worth hiring a designer. Interior Designers will work closely with you to help define your style and then communicate effectively with lots of inspiration to decide and confirm the design direction for a space before anything else. Designer's are very skilled at channeling what's going on in your head and turning it into a beautiful and cohesive design, that you not only love the look of, but feels like you.

6. Budgeting and planning are made easier

Deciding where to splurge and where to save in your design is a job in itself! A designer can help to ensure that you complete your design within your budget and ensure you don't run out of money before it's complete.

7. Collaboration

A good interior designer will work with you to dig deep into exactly what you want and need from your project; they won't just take a brief you give them and then design what they think you'll like. Due to this collaborative process, the designer will be 100% sure that they have created a design you'll love.

8. Professional insight at your service

When you hire a designer, you don't just hire that person. You hire their training, experience and knowledge within the industry. They'll be able to professionally advise you and add their expertise to your vision. Being in-the-know can only enhance your room design.

9. An Interior Designer will add value to your home

All of the experience and extra oomph is not just adding aesthetics to your home, it also adds value too. The designer's ideas are not only gorgeous but they are practical, smart and make the most out of the space you have. Therefore, hiring an Interior Designer will inevitably add value to your property. This could be modernising a dated interior, adjusting the layouts or aiding in a complete renovation.

10. Resources and contacts

Having access to your Interior Designer means you have access to their resources too, like floor plan and layout tools and 2D/3D visuals that they will create to help you visualise what your finished space will look like once complete. You will also have access to their long list of retailer and professional contacts, such as architects and trades people. If they do not have the specific trade in their contact list, they will definitely have advice to put you in the right direction to someone who will be able to help you out.

Iconik Interior Design Services

Whatever the size of your project, I always begin with a 60 minute Design Consultation at your home. My services include anything from a complete ‘concept to completion’ service, to a colour consultation (where I help you choose the best paint colours for your room).

I’ll talk through the scope of your project including the functionality, aesthetic, budget etc. and take a look at the area you want to transform. We can discuss initial design ideas, inspiration, recommendations and so on.

Some people find this initial design consultation enough for what they need and are happy to move forward on their own, whilst others will have additional work they need me to help them with. Once I have a better idea of scope, I will then go away and prepare a fee proposal for any additional work you might need help with. You can then decide whether or not you would like to proceed on that additional work together.

A Design Consultation with me is £200 (travel cost outside 30 mile radius of Ipswich, Suffolk will apply). Drop me an email to book - kirstie@iconikinteriors.co.uk
